Flip of the (Mid)Century

We found this piece hiding in a garage, from a sweet couple who was making room to winterize their boat.

This mid-mod chest of drawers caught my eye within an hour of it being posted and I new instantly it would be my next project. Upon picking this piece up, we realized there was a little damage to one of the legs and it needed some wood TLC.

This baby sat for a few weeks, while I decided what design would best add to the original beauty.

We got to work on a cold, but sunny Fall afternoon in East Tennessee. We disassembled the work and the sanding began. I had decided that I wanted to see if I could bring out the original wood color behind the stain. I’d like to say that was the easiest part of this transformation, but leaving exposed wood means you sand and sand and sand some more. I really loved the natural wood tone of the drawers, so they were left untreated.

I have a new obsession.

I had been researching mineral paints and had decided to try out Melange Mineral Paints. I placed an order for several new colors and planned on using a light color for this piece. I ended up choosing Nom de Plume and tested it out before committing.

I move on to priming and finally painting the dresser. I then try to convince my husband that this piece belongs with me…in our house (Ignore my painted feet). It was a no go. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
